So why is Chiang Mai, Thailand the best destination in the world for expats? My first time in Asia was as a young boy in Viet Nam. I lived there for several years and fell in love with South East Asia. I was also fortunate enough to visit Thailand many times during my stay in Viet Nam and it became my favorite. I have been in and out of Asia ever since and I can tell you without any hesitation that Chiang Mai is the best spot in the world for expats. Come and check out all it has to offer and it will seduce you too. In Chiang Mai, life is one adventure after another!

City Shot

The city acts like a tourist magnet to many vacationers and expats that visit and settle in the area. The expat community continues to grow (last count over 27,000) with many people from different countries around the world choosing to settle here.

Foreigners decide to relocate from North America, Europe and Australia to name but a few locations. Many choose to retire here due to the friendliness of the Thai people, the slower pace of life and the wonderful city, which is virtually crime free.

Although the cost of living has increased somewhat in recent years, due to the drop in value of many foreign currencies against the strong Thai baht, it’s still very cheap to live here. The value you can get for your money still astonishes those that have lived here for years.

Temple Lion

Chiang Mai is the second largest city in this beautiful Asian country. It’s known as the "Rose of the North" and has close ties with the Lanna culture.
